Host Maximum New York
Going from 100 to 1,000 alumni in 2024. Want in?
Maximum New York began in a living room.
The first class on NYC’s government was in late March 2022, and it comprised a special group of people who sat on couches in a U while I drew on a white board. In that moment, I didn’t yet know if MNY would grow into the civics school I envisioned.
Now, as I approach the second anniversary of that first class, there is no doubt.
Going beyond the living room
I’ve taught in spaces all over New York City in the intervening year and a half, and I will continue to teach in my own living room for at least one seminar in Spring 2024—sometimes a living room really is the best.
But now I’m looking for a partner who would like to host Maximum New York beginning in February 2024 as it goes from 100 to 1,000 alumni.
What kind of spaces does MNY use?
Most of my classes are capped at 20 people, although at some point in the future I will host 50-person+ classes. I’d be happy to teach in office spaces, clubs, and more.
The Foundations of New York: City, MNY’s marquee class, is typical:
Eight weeks long.
In-person, in NYC.
Two-hour class meeting time, with 30 minutes before and after class for setup and post-class talk and cleanup.
Taught on a weeknight, usually 6:30-8:30pm (so 6-9pm with 30-minute blocks before/after). Weekends are also possible.
Up to 20 seats with a whiteboard. A/V capability is a plus, but not required.
What kind of partner are you?
If you want better governance for New York City,
If you like what MNY’s about,
If you think the future can be better than the past and present,
If you want to be part of building something new,
then I’d love to have you as a partner.
Your space can be paid, it can be donated in-kind (MNY is a 501c3), it can start with one class and expand later, or any other arrangement you’d like to propose. The partnership should feel exciting for everyone.
