Event details
Where: Near Atlantic Terminal in Brooklyn
When: Saturday, February 24
Time: 12:30-3:00pm
Spots: 10
RSVP: get on the list; space is limited! There will be more if people like this event. Make sure to include your full name and a link to your online presence if we haven’t met before.
Why: Making NYC more abundant means getting good ideas down, and circulating them for sharpening and consideration. I’ll help you get started, or keep going.
Who is this for?
Abundance-minded New Yorkers who want to get started writing, or want to keep up their writing momentum. You can also connect with others doing the same thing!
What is pair writing?
Pair writing is the practice of two writers sitting together at one computer to produce one piece of writing. I’m taking inspiration from the concept of “pair programming.”
Pair writing is different from the traditional idea of co-authoring, because it is a live exercise done in the moment by two people. You’re not trading drafts back and forth between two contributors.
Pair writing allows new writers to more easily get past basic writing blocks, and allows established writers to go faster. I will be available to pair write with most people during the event, especially those who need help getting started. If you’re a new writer, I will be acting more as a coach to force your flow of writing forward.
What to do before the event:
Set up a Substack, unless you already have a dedicated online writing platform that works for you. If you want help doing this, just make sure to show up on time to the event. The beginning will be reserved for help and questions.
You must publish something by the end of the event. If that makes you a little nervous, make peace with your god about that now. It will be a good time, even if it’s a little scary! You’ll have plenty of help if you need it.
Introducing: Substats!
Two of my friends (
and ) created Substats, which displays your Substack writing progress like a GitHub commit graph. You will leave this event with a published post, and a green square for the week!
Why write online?
You create mindshare, contribute to the intellectual commons, and move the world just a little bit if you do it correctly.
If you want some tips on how to do it, see this piece:
Substats is such a brilliant idea!
